At Fairview Cemetery in Bastrop lie the graves of the War Babies. During World War II many soldiers were sent to Camp Swift for training before being shipped off to war. Some of their wives followed to be with their men for a few months before they were sent away. A few of the women lost their babies and could not afford to bury them, so a local funeral home did it free of charge. The women went back home and the babies were forgotten.
