Frog statues. Carl's Corner - Hillsboro, Texas - Dancing Frogs, Willie Nelson-Branded Biodiesel Truck Stop

The truck stop is now finished, with a place for concerts. Get a bite to eat and see many photos of Willie Nelson along the walls. Carl C. is part owner and still around here and there. Some times Willie is there walking through. The frogs are in the back side corner. [Debby Pressinger, 09/13/2009]

Carl's Corner. Carl's Corner, Texas - Tango Frogs

Carl got those frogs from a nightclub in Dallas that was popular in the early 1980s. There was a huge local fight with the Dallas zoning board due to their sign ordinances. I recall they were given a reprieve and stood on the roof of a club called Tango for several years. [SMD, 06/25/2009]

Carl's Corner, Texas - Dancing Frogs at Willie Nelson-Branded Biodiesel Truck Stop

I don't know who Carl is, but he seems like a nice fellow. As you travel south on Interstate 35 East from Dallas, you pass through this town. The welcome signs are quite weathered, but the best one is a big 18-wheeler, with Carl, I assume, at the wheel, his friendly smile and cowboy hat greeting travelers. After passing this sign, the traveler will pass a gas station with giant frogs on the roof. I think the frogs are dancing, perhaps playing musical instruments...? [Julie E., 01/07/1998]

[RA: The gas station is now known as Willie's Place at Carl’s Corner, with Willie Nelson's handprint in a block of cement. Carl Cornelius, who founded the town, has evidently moved on. The frog sculpture is a creation of artist Bob "Daddy-O" Wade (also responsible for the long-gone Iguana that used to perch on the roof of NYC's Lone Star Cafe). It's a six-piece orchestra of frogs.]
